“I am an invisible man. No I am not a spook like those who haunted Edgar Allen Poe: Nor am I one of your Hollywood movie ectoplasms. I am a man of substance, of flesh and bone, fiber and liquids, and I might even be said to possess a mind. I am invisible, simply because people refuse to see me.” – Ralph Ellison
There are no ongoing conversations in advertising about the unique experience of Black people in the industry. No ongoing convos about their triumphs, struggles, concerns, origin stories. There’s no place where Black people receive flowers from the industry that inspired them. Instead we see one-off panels/round tables/town hall events, that come and quickly go. Invisible Soldiers podcast is an attempt to cultivate a space where this conversation can build, gain momentum and thrive.
The Invisible Soldiers podcast was created by myself, Corey D. Seaton, and my co-host, Rebecca L. Sanders. Join us on a journey as we delve into the history, stories and perspectives of Blacks in advertising. We’ll also explore the idea of being invisible, the pros, the cons, as well as what it means to become more visible.
